Open Heart Procedures Jesus’ last act in the Gospel of John is to deliberately address Peter’s pride and his denials. Jesus had appointed Peter to be Pastor of the new community. But Peter had lingering guilt and shame for how he had abandoned Jesus. So Jesus recreated the scene of Peter’s denial and invited Peter to choose differently this time. Jesus is kind enough not to allow guilt and shame to linger as a sickness in our hearts. But the cure requires honesty and devotion.
