Living Water.

The story of the Samaritan woman is rich with many themes. It highlights all the barriers and obstacles between Jesus and this woman, highlights all the vulnerabilities in her life, as well as Jesus’ compassion and persistence with her. But perhaps running through all of these is the desire to find some fulness or fulfillment in life and faith, symbolized by water and thirst and searching. She seeks some fulness where she isn’t so vulnerable to the wills and wishes of those more privileged, powerful, or prosperous than her. In that hope, she leaves her water jar.
