Sunday Livestream Worship Service

Aug 2, 2026    Rev. Dr. David Pettit

In our reading from John this Sunday, we encounter not so much a story as an extended reflection on Jesus as manna, bread, sustenance, and the fulfillment of our deepest hunger. As Jesus develops this metaphor, he presents himself as more than a teacher or leader. He places himself at the very center of faith, a claim that proves too much for some, who turn and walk away. Perhaps the heart of this rich language about bread and life is captured in Simon Peter's response in verses 68–69: "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
