Position Summary
The Director of Christian Formation will provide vision, leadership, and oversight for the
church’s discipleship and spiritual growth ministries. Working closely with church leadership,
this role will help cultivate a vibrant, welcoming environment that encourages the exploration of
faith and nurtures a lifelong commitment to Jesus.
Responsibilities span youth and children’s ministries, community outreach, as well as adult
education and the coordination of various groups that support spiritual development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall responsibility: to develop and implement a clear and cohesive spiritual formation
strategy for the congregation, ensuring all spiritual formation ministries align with the church’s
mission, values, and doctrinal distinctives.
Children, Youth, and Family Ministry: 80%
- Create, coordinate, and implement faith formation programs for children, including nursery care, Sunday School, Children’s Message, holiday programs, and family activities.
- Recruit, equip, and supervise volunteers who support and lead formation programs.
- Offer annual Confirmation classes and provide ongoing support for confirmands and their families.
- Manage the Christian Formation Ministry Team (CFMT) budget and adhere to MCPC’s Employee Guidebook and financial management policies.
- Maintain current background checks, ensure compliance with children’s and youth protection policies, and provide regular child protection training.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities.
- Schedule leaders for the Children’s Message, Sunday School, and nursery, and provide schedules to the office manager.
- Maintain accurate records of children and youth by grade and age, along with parent/guardian information.
- Oversee the condition, organization, and readiness of classrooms, supply rooms, and storage areas.
- Attend monthly Christian Formation Ministry Team meetings
- Collaborate with the Worship and Mission committees to engage children and youth in worship and mission activities.
- Build relationships within the community to strengthen the church’s presence and encourage participation.
- Develop new programs or events as appropriate to the development and strengthening of our children’s and youth ministry.
Adult Christian Formation: 20%
- In cooperation with the Pastor, coordinate adult discipleship ministries, including classes, courses, and other spiritual growth opportunities.
- Provide leadership and support for small groups and Bible studies.
- In coordination with the Pastor, identify, develop, and curate teaching resources and curriculum appropriate for the congregation.
Relationships:
- Supervised by the Pastor
- Responsible to the MCPC Session via the Pastor, the Christian Formation Ministry Team and/or the Personnel Ministry Team as appropriate
- Supervises and directs all Christian Education Programs.
- Interfaces with other staff as necessary
- Works with volunteers and the Christian Formation Ministry Team.

- Strong commitment to, and able to articulate, a personal relationship to Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and a strong commitment to MCPC
- Able to lead graciously as a servant leader
- Shows initiative, self-direction, and follow-through
- Good interpersonal skills, able to relate to and cooperate with staff, volunteers, and the congregation as a member of a team
- Effective interpersonal skills that reach out to wide-ranging personalities.
- Able to create an enthusiasm for Christ that invites our congregation, children, youth, parents, and volunteers to a deeper life with God.
- Organizational and recruiting skills that extend to volunteers, members, and other community groups that may contribute to MCPC’s program.
- A willing and patient teacher. Committed to sharing his/her personal knowledge of God’s work and grace.
- Open to and comfortable with a variety of child/youth/adult-oriented activities.
- Proven experience recruiting, training and leading similar programs.
- Effective planning, time management, and administrative abilities.
- Competency with basic technology as well as social media/advertising tools.
Required Education & Experience:
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, spiritual formation, or a related field
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in discipleship, spiritual formation, pastoral ministry or comparable responsibilities.
- Experience in working with youth and children, leading small groups, teaching, and developing leaders.

Preferred qualifications
- Masters in theology, divinity, ministry, or related field
Compensation:
- 40-50k depending on experience and qualifications
- Benefits including health insurance are possible
- Vacation time: 2 weeks
- Sick time: 2 weeks
- FT position, though exact hours and scope can be negotiated for the right candidate
